Review: Cantu Curl Activator

Results of Cantu Curl Activator.

It wasn't until I started following curly hair bloggers that I really found out about Cantu as a brand, and it quickly became some of the first products I tried. Not all of their products have worked for me, but the Cantu Cream Activator really was a game changer for me. I've always used creams as my primary styling product as this is now one of my all time favourites!

What does it do?

According to the bottle, Cantu Curl Activator 'smoothes and enhances natural curl pattern' making your curls 'frizz-free', 'defined' and 'virtually weightless'. For me, this is exactly the results I get from the product, although the cream is quite thick, this means a little goes a long way and your curls feel so moisturised.

How do you apply it?

It's recommended that you apply the cream in sections while your hair is damp. I've used this technique with a Denman brush, as I do most creams, and I get amazing results almost every time. The thing I love about this product is it creates those 'squishy' type of curls that always turn out perfect - this is where each strand is super defined, reducing frizz and creating volume. I always like to use a gel with most creams I use, but I've used used this product without and although, personally, my hair is a little more fluffy, it still turns out defined - i guess that's more about preference.

What are the results?

Like I said, the curl activator is great at defining your curls, and when applying it, it may seem like you've applied too much if you can still its white consistency. When this dries your hair will probably feel very hard and crusty, but don't be fooled! All you need to do it scrunch out the cast with some oil, I like to use a few drops, rub it between my palms, and use a smooth it over my curls using a 'praying hands' motion. This will loosen the crunch and underneath your curls will be super soft!

Final thoughts

I love the Cantu Curl Activator cream, and when I want to wash my curls quickly and don't have time to experiment with new products, this is my go-to cream of choice. I definitely think this cream would be suitable for a range of curl types, I have 3B curls that are quite light, but equally, the product is heavy enough for tighter or thicker curls. For around £7.99, this is such a bargain, it's everything you need in an affordable cream.
