What is Olaplex?

Olaplex has taken the hair industry by storm. In fact, if you've not heard of Olaplex where have you been? First used in professional hair salons, Olaplex is a real must-have system for all hair types, especially curls.

How does Olaplex work?

Olaplex is a system that rebuilds damaged hair bonds that have been compromised by chemicals, lifestyle, age and other environmental factors. But what makes Olaplex really amazing is the way it achieves these results? The active ingredient found in the products works at a molecular level to restore broken bonds, which means repairing the structure of your hair from the inside out. Currently, Olaplex works in a five step system, but Olaplex 3 is the product you are most likely use at home.

My experience

I was first introduced to Olaplex by my auntie after a bad experience with another hairdresser colouring my hair. I was aiming to go from my natural hair colour (dark brown) to a very light blonde. Admittedly this isn't an easy job for anyone, but during the first few months my hair went from dark brown to a coppery/ginger colour and was as dry as ever!

After switching to my auntie's salon, she told me a little about Olapex and I did my own little. I was so surprised to find that a lot of natural hair bloggers used Olaplex, particularly to combat chemical damage. Throughout this colouring process Olapex was used throughout and my hair was able to lift to the lightest it's ever been without feeling like hay! I then purchased Olaplex 3 to use at home, inbetween colouring and keep my curls strong.

How do I use Olaplex 3?

According to the Olaplex website, the product should be applied to towel dried hair and left on for 10 minutes or more. I apply Olaplex 3 after shampooing and conditioning, and sometimes after my hair masks. I treat Olapex as a treatment and the final step in my washday. When applying the product, I like to make sure every strand is covered by twisting two strands together until my whole head is covered.
I usually leave this in for a minimum of 30 minutes or even overnight if my hair needs extra TLC. I then rinse it out with water and continue styling my hair. Since this is a treatment rather than a deep conditioner, I personally use it around once a month but if you are colouring your hair or you have a lot of breakage you could benefit from using it more.

Overall

I'd recommend Olaplex 3 to anyone. It transformed my hair colouring journey and really makes a difference to the condition of my hair - 10/10, love!
